The frescos of the Buddhist Temple of Mahiyangana show the first contact that Buddha had with the Veddas, the only inhabitants of the island of Ceylon 25 centuries ago. When Buddha arrived, he was surrounded by the Veddas who were cannibals. Buddha accomplished two miracles, the fire for frightening them and the water for bringing them peace.
